Armenian Cake

Armenian Cake
Put 1 tsp baking soda in 1 cup sour cream ( in a large measuring cup thingy... 2 or more cups of room or a bowl) and set aside...

2 C flour, 2 Cups light brown sugar, 2 cubes butter...mix in Kitchen Aid... Split in half. Put half in baking pan.

When the sour cream is foamy add 1 egg.
Mix together and then mix that with second half of the butter/flour/ brown sugar mixture... Spread in pan on top of first layer.

Sprinkle with chopped nuts. I prefer pecans but traditionally it is chopped walnuts.  Also sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon...

Bake 25 min at 350 degrees. Cool 10 min and cut into squares or 1x2 inch bars.

Comments:  This is a favorite from my father's side of the family.  I often take it to church and other events. It looks simple and not necessarily wonderful. It is fun to watch people ignore it and eat everything else on the table.  If we are really lucky we get to take the whole thing home again.  IF, however, someone ventures forth and tries it, then they 'Ohhh!' and 'Ahhh!' until everyone else has to try it and then it disappears instantly.  It really is yummy.  If you aren't careful, and make it at home without anyone to take it to, you can easily eat the whole thing yourself...one little piece at a time.... and be sick for days... Oh, oh! Not again...

Hiding in the Flowers

What do you do when little fingers leave little prints on your favorite skirt?

You just get your Mom to embroider little flowers where the little fingers were...

The fun of teaching someone...

The fun of teaching someone a new skill is seeing what all they can do with it.
My young friend, Rebecca, wanted to learn to crochet.
She has now made two blankets for her friends.Posted by Picasa
This is her second one.
Just wait until you see the one she is about to begin.
It will be AMAZING!
...but then, she is an amazing young lady!

Have you ever...

Seen such a Happy Mother?? :-)

Carrie here...Mom and I spent last week in Utah visiting Grandma. On our way home we visited old friends up in Logan. A member from their ward has an AMAZING garden. I promise...it rivals Camelot! But the one thing it had that Camelot does not...a swing. Oh yes! It was fantastic! And Mom had a blast!! Hey Dad...think Camelot can get a swing too??

An Artist in the Family

This is my grandson, Prince. He is an artist.

This is one of the drawings he made for me while we were visiting.

You can see it is him dressed in a Boy Scout uniform.
He is looking forward to being a Boy Scout!
All kids love uniforms and costumes of all kinds!
They just don't all do self-portraits...
I think he is really good, don't you?

The Snowball Tree

While in CT for Christmas we only had one snowstorm. It was pretty small by New England standards! There really wasn't even enough snow to build a snowman. Tackler and I didn't let that stop us.

We made a Snowball Tree!
We made good snowballs and threw them into the tree.
We were surprised at how many stayed up there.
Tackler seems to be rearranging some of them.
That is more to his liking...Climbing the tree!
